Call to prayer

A call to prayer:

Following the attacks on Christians and security forces in Garissa, we Christian leaders are inviting you fellow believers to join us for a three day fasting and prayers to God!
This text inspires us to above all else turn to God who alone is able to help us.

‘For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:14-16 ESV)
Just like Esther, we In the face of our present dangers and great pressure have resolved to call on God!

Day one
Monday
Remembering those who have paid for their witness with their lives.
Readings;
‘Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?”
I said to him, “Sir, you know.”
And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:13-17 ESV)

Day two
Tuesday 12th February 2013
Prayer for persecuted Christian community

And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit,
“Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed” — for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:23-31 ESV)

1. Pray for boldness in persecution
There are real reasons to fear
2. Pray that God will defend and prosper his church here.
We have been warned to move out of the region and that northeastern should be rid of all Christian churches
3. Pray that God will guide our reaction.
There are sections of us calling for armed retaliation since security forces are also under attack.
4. Pray that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit to continue to witness for Christ .
5. Pray that we will witness for Christ with wisdom that cannot be equalled by any opposition both in human and spiritual terms.
6. Pray for a unified, strong voice from the body of Christ against the injustices and prejudices towards the church in Garissa and NEP as a whole (cemetery for Christians, functioning mortuary at the Provincial General Hospital, ownership of property by churches/ church organisations).

Day three:

Wednesday 13th February 2013

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
(Matthew 6:9, 10 ESV)

Pray for Gods kingdom to come!
Security of the region and the world…those in charge of security services will serve without fear or favour.
There will be peace for the Gospel to be preached

God’s justice for all who have suffered death or injury following the attack by alshabaab. There are a section of Muslim leaders condemning t his act and have been under attack for that.
Pray for Gods visitation upon the land!
Pray that the fear of the LORD will befall all the enemies of the Cross.
